Preface

Professor Roger Temam is a world renowned applied mathematician. His first major contribution to science is his thesis (these d'etat) worked under the direction of the late Professor Jacque-Louis Lions on fractional step methods and their application to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations (independently studied by Alexander Chorin). Since then, he has been continuously making many important contributions through his work at the interface between mathematical analysis, numerical analysis and scientific computing.
